Information and Referral:
Information on housing, transportation, employment, adaptive equipment, accessibility modifications, local and national resources and programs, and services are available for people with disabilities.

Skills Instruction:
Short term skills instruction, both individual and small group, is provided to help people with disabilities gain skills to live more independently. Topics may include:

  • Communication Skills
  • Household Management
  • Personal Assistant Services
  • Personal Safety
  • Pre-Vocational Information
  • Self-Esteem
  • Social Skills
  • Orientation / Mobility
  • And Others

Advocacy:
Individual Assistance is provided to people with disabilities to obtain necessary support services and/or benefits from existing sources within the community.

Pro-active efforts are made for system-wide changes making it possible for all people with disabilities to live more independently.

Peer Support/Counseling:
Using the self–help model, people with disabilities work with dARSW’s peer counselors to explore options and to solve problems.

Community Education:
Training and community presentations by disability advocates are available on disability topics, such as awareness, rights and culture. Workshops are tailored to meet individual needs.

Americans With Disabilities Act:
Information, technical assistance, site evaluation, advocacy and training are available for individuals and the business community. We also assist builders / developers with site planning evaluation for practical accessibility issues, as well as provide information sources for adaptive needs.
